美國玉米帶目前氣候異常嚴寒，玉米種植進度嚴重落後，截至4月28日，種植進度僅達5%，遠遠落後去年同期的49%。

元大寶來商品指數期信基金經理人曾士育表示，美國能源政策中以10%的乙醇添加至汽油中，而玉米產量中有高比例會使用來提煉乙醇，如玉米大幅欠收，對油價將有助漲效果。
